For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
In our last part of this devotion series, I wanted us to notice the phrase “therefore glorify God”. What does it mean to “glorify” God? We all have a basic idea of the meaning of this phrase. but I would like to take a few minutes to examine it more closely.
The word translated “glorify” in this verse comes from a root word in the Greek language that means “to appear”. “to think”, or “to seem”. It involves the idea of “reputation” or “status”. It is what others “think” of Him, or what He “appears to be” to them, or what He “seems to be like” to those who know Him.
When Paul tells us that we should “glorify” Christ, he is saying that we should enhance others’ opinions about Him. We should do all we can to make sure He has an honorable, reverential testimony in the eyes of those who come in contact with us.
How do we do this? By living lives that point others to Him. Folks, as professing Christians, what we say about Him, our actions and words around others, and our lifestyle choices we make, reflect not only our character, but they reflect upon the person and work of Christ also.
As we end our study of 1 Cor 6:19-20, let’s keep in mind, after all He has done for us… as recipients of the graces of physical and spiritual life, let us renew our commitment to do all in our power to bring honor and praise to Him in the eyes of those around us. In other words, let’s “glorify” Him!
1Cor 6:19-20 (KJV)
19) What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20) For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
May the Lord bless us as we “Think On These Things”.

Amen Rob! We really must focus on living our lives in Christ, and know that other people are looking at us..watching us. Recently, I found out that a bunch of people on facebook, people I would never imagine, were secretly reading my posts? they would message me privately and tell me they enjoyed them… I was shocked… out of all the people, they weren’t the ones I thought would read my posts. They were the billy bad butts of school as a kid! LOL The world is always watching..ready to condemn or want what we have. BTW, sent you a message on Facebook! God bless you!
Lyn,
Ye got your message and replied. I know whta you mean about the kids form school. Same thing with me… there were several of my schoolmates that read my postings on Facebook I had no idea they were follwoing things so closely. It is a blessing that many of them are Christians that are growing in the Lord. Lord bless you Lynn. I am trusting the Lrod will continue to use you for HIs glory, on wordpress and facebook. I am praying your book will be published in timely fashion. I know these things take time and can face many delays along the way. Take care, my friend. Rob
we should all be living this way daily, like a habit. i am trying and ask him to forgive me each day for being forgetful and for all my sins……….
AMEN my friend. I can add nothing ot what you have said. Lord bless.
I really appreciate you explaining glorify!
So often I use words, with a heart understanding of them. It helps so much to have it spelled out clearly! God bless you as you glorify Him today!
Deb, speaking for myself there are so many Bible terms that I “kinda know” the meaning of. But when I actually study their definition their meanings become more and more clear to me. Then when the Lord blesses and opens an opportunity to share this stuff I gladly do it. He is so good to us. His Word and His opportunities to serve. Lord bless you Deb. Keep up your faithful service, the Lord is continuing to use you!

Thanks for another concise and clear explanation of a much-used word, Rob.
What an incredible privilege is ours to glorify God! Once again I am reminded of the poem “We are the only Bible this careless world will read”. We need to show forth the REALITY of a new life in Christ. We need to show forth His qualities in every word, every action, every attitude.
Lord, give us many opportunities to glorify You – and convict us and empower us to use those opportunities.
Angela,
all I can say is AMEN to what you have said. It is a burden on my heart to help others understand the need for Godly living in the midst of a world in spiritual darkness. May He continue to bless you dear friend.
