Our next devotion will be based upon 1 Peter 5:11…. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
In our devotional series, we have seen:
1. We need to keep our sinful flesh under control – vs 8
2. We need to be ever watchful for Satanic intervention in our lives – vs 8
3. Satan will consistently oppose us as we seek to serve our Lord – vs 8
4. Satan’s desire is to destroy our testimony and usefulness for Christ – vs 8
5. We must resist his workings. - vs 9
6. Our resistance is based upon our “faith” (our saving faith in Christ and the set of truths that we believe) – vs 9
7. We recognize that there are other Christians who face the same type of opposition, we are not alone – vs 9
8. Our God is a gracious Lord – vs 10
9. Through this grace we are recipients of His salvation and eternal blessings in His presence – vs 10
10. The Lord NEVER promises to immediately take away the opposition – vs 10
11. We gain maturity, encouragement, correction and permanent change – vs 10
12. We must commit our lives to Him resulting in Him being glorified – Vs 11
And now after teaching us all of these wonderful truths, Peter closes this area of teaching with the term “Amen”. What a fitting conclusion. The term “amen” means “so be it”, “surely”, “to be firm”.
The use of this word teaches us that these 12 truths are:
1. firm – they will not change, not with time, nor with circumstances
2. surely – they are true, actual to fact
3. so be it – we are to be accepting of these truths and to be in submission to their application in our lives.
In this one word “amen” it is as if we are saying…. “ My Lord, I know these are true and will not change, therefore I will accept them and gladly apply them to my life. I am now submitting myself to their dictates.
Let’s all join with Peter and in our hearts shout a silent “amen” as we seek to apply these truths to our lives.
May the Lord bless us as we “Think On These Things”.
