A Month of Thankfulness” Devotional Series (Day 6)

In whom we have redemption through his blood

SIH’s Think On These Things: Col 1:12-14

Col 1:12-14 (KJV)  Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated [us] into the kingdom of his dear Son:  In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Our thanksgiving should include appreciation for the Father’s work in allowing us to share in the inheritance of the saints.  This inheritance includes all of the blessings that await His people throughout eternity.  (Rev 21:–22:)

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated [us] into the kingdom of his dear Son:
To receive the inheritance that will be shared by all our fellow believers, a spiritual deliverance must take place in our lives.  This liberation involves being brought out from the rule and bondage of sin and being placed under the reign of His dear Son.  Another way to describe this gracious act of God is to have the enslavement of sin replaced with the reign of Christ in our hearts. (John 8:33-37, Roms 8:1-4)

In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:
How is this deliverance brought to pass?  It is accomplished through the work of Christ on the cross.  As He shed His blood He made the ransom payment that was necessary to secure our release from sin’s bondage and our forgiveness before the Father.  This three-fold act of His grace can be summed up using term “redemption” (to pay a ransom, or debt, in full).

Let us all give thanks unto our Lord for the redemption that He has so graciously supplied to us as He came and shed His blood on the cross so that we might receive deliverance from sin’s bondage, citizenship in His kingdom and the forgiveness of our sins.
1Chr 16:34-41 (KJV)  O give thanks unto the LORD; for [he is] good; for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

May the Lord bless us as we “Think On These Things”.

  1. Debbie says:

God bless you, Pastor Rob, as we rejoice and are thankful today because of the inheritance He has made possible for us on the cross. Thank you!

  2. “Redeemed” – such a beautiful word with such a depth of meaning. I am redeemed. I am worth absolutely nothing, and yet I am now worth a tremendous amount. My Redeemer paid an humungous price for me.

What an amazing Redeemer who loves me with an everlasting love and gave Himself for me!

      Hi Angela
Words cannot fully describe the principle of redemption and what it means to His people. Thank you so much for the comments. May He continue to bless you and Myles.
