“A Month of Thankfulness” Devotional Series (Day 16)

The Heavens Declare the Glory of God; and the Firmament Sheweth His Handywork.

SIH’s Think On These Things: Psa 19:1-4

Ps 19
1) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2) Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3) [There is] no speech nor language, [where] their voice is not heard.
4) Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world…

Within the pages of the Bible we find at least three great blessings that we receive from God’s wondrous creation…
1. Seeing the Beauty and Awe of Creation (Matt 6:28-30, 1 Chron 29:11 etc)
2. Teaching Us Practical Lessons on Spiritual Living (Matt 6:28-30, Psa 89:5, Pro 6:6-11, 30:24-28 etc)
3. Teaching Us the True God’s Existence and Attributes (Romans 1:18-27, Matt 5:44-45, Psa 97:1-6 etc)

Of course, teaching us about the True God is the greatest of all these blessings….

“… The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
The heaven that contains the stars and planets (“heavens”), and the heaven that contains the atmosphere clouds and rain (“firmament”) declare God’s greatness to all mankind.  Much like a poem reveals much about its poet; a building reveals much about its designer; a painting reveals much about its artist; so too, nature, the work of God’s creative wisdom, power and grace, reveals much about its Creator.

“Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
As the sun rises each day, revealing nature on earth, and then sets every night, revealing the glorious heavenly bodies of space, God is revealed and glorified to all mankind.

“[There is] no speech nor language, [where] their voice is not heard.
No matter what language a man may speak, the message of nature is understood as it reveals the True Creator.

Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.
No matter where a man may live, whether in the east or the west; whether on the mountaintop or in the deepest cave; whether in a plane in the sky or in a diving bell under the seas; he can see nature, the work of God’s hands.

All men everywhere are shown the existence and greatness of a divine Creator through nature.  This results in their accountability at the final judgment and the necessity to tell others about this Creator.  Rom 1:19-20 (KJV) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them.  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Let us praise and thank our wonderful Lord for giving to every man a beautiful, educational display of His existence and greatness in the nature that is all around us.  As we see the amazing creation around us, we must never forget to tell others of the divine Creator… all men are all held accountable, without excuse before Him.

May the Lord bless us as we “Think On These Things”.

Amen!! I appreciate your posts! I love how you mentioned that God teaches us thru His creation, as I am developing a children’s curriculum based on this premise…It’s called “We Learn Fom Spiders”

    Thank you!!

    • Rob Barkman says:

Hi Jenny, Thanks for visiting the SIH blog. I visted your site and took a look at the Spider lesson you had posted. Very well done and very unique! I am looking forward to seeing the curriculum progress. Lord bless you and thanks again for the kind words.

  2. This is definitely one of the best posts I’ve read, all week, across the blog world. Creation cries out his Name, to me, even as I open my blinds in the morning. I truly believe we are without excuse… How gracious of the Lord to speak so beautifully to us.
    Blessings ~ Wendy

      Hi Wendy,

If anyone recognizes the Lord’s revelation in nature… it is certainly you. I have been enjoying your blog greatly, with it’s many images of nature presented to the honor and glory of our Lord. The Lrod is so good to each of us as He reveals Himself to each and every one of us. Lord bless you.

  3. Debbie says:

I love learning about Him and from Him through all He has created! What a great thing to show us to be thankful for today! God bless you, Pastor Rob!

  4. How anyone can see the beauty of nature around ….all the different types of trees and flowers etc etc. and not believe in God ….but instead choose to think it’s all ‘random’ ….is beyond my belief…Diane

    • Rob Barkman says:

You and I are of the same mind. I cannot begin to understand how a person does not see God throughout all of nature. Lord bless. Thanks for the comments.

  5. How can anyone look at God’s creation and deny the absolute NECESSITY of a Creator? The intricacies of the human body and of all life forms DEMAND an infinitely superior intelligence, as does the design and organised movement of the universe, including the uncountable planets, stars etc and the tides, winds and other features we so take for granted.

When we consider the majesty of the creation – which we can’t really comprehend – we are totally awestruck that the Creator of all this is of necessity even greater than the creation.

    What an incomprehensibly amazing God!

. . . and yet this amazing God loves ME and gave Himself for me! Incredible but true!
