SIH TOTT ICONHe layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous (Prov 2:7)

 The Seduction Of Wickedness: It’s Conquest: Prov 7:21-23

21) With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22) He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23) Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it [is] for his life.

INTRODUCTION:

Solomon now finishes his case study by showing us the ultimate end of those who are overcome in the war against temptation…

EXPOSITION:

21) With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
How he is overcome by temptation:
1.  With her multiple words of that sounded so beautiful and desirous she causes him to bend to her desires.
2.  With her smooth, appealing words she compelled him to follow her lead.

To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.  They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: [with] flattering lips [and] with a double heart do they speak.”   (Psalms 12:1-2)

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.”   (Revelation 2:20)

22) He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
Her speech causes him to:
1. follow her lead without hesitation
2. unknowingly go to his demise
3. walk ignorantly into punishment

To deliver thee from the strange woman, [even] from the stranger [which] flattereth with her words;  Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.  For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.”   (Proverbs 2:16-18)

23) Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it [is] for his life.
His actions end in:
1.  a deadly wound
2.  flowing quickly to a fatal trap
3.  ignorant that, from the beginning of her enticement, it was intended to take his life

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.   Do not err, my beloved brethren.”   (James 1:14-16)

SUMMARY:

The end of this young man’s willful choice to follow temptation’s path is ultimate harm and death.

For the lost it is eternal death in the Lake of Fire.  For those who are saved it is death of their testimony for Christ, death of their eternal rewards, and death of their peace and joy.

By God’s grace, let us all study these proverbs diligently, giving them the value that they deserve.

May the Lord bless us as we receive this sound wisdom and then “Think On These Things”.

    I’m so thankful for these Proverbs, and for you teaching from them. Sad to think of what all is at stake, but good to know! God bless you!

  2. Following temptation ALWAYS means LOSS!

    Billy Sunday said: One reason that sin flourishes is that we treat temptation like a cream puff instead of like a rattle snake.
    P T Forsyth said: Unless there is WITHIN us that which is ABOVE us, we shall soon yield to that which is AROUND us.

    Praise God for the victory He makes available to His blood-bought, adopted children, enabling them to resist and stand against the devil. We are more than conquerors through Christ.
