The next miracle in our series is Jesus heals a Deaf Man With A Speech Impediment …This miracle is recorded for us in Mark 7:31-37

As Christ moved through the coasts of Decapolis, the inhabitants approached Him with a man who was both deaf and suffering from a speech impediment. He desired to be healed.  The Lord graciously, fulfilled His desire as follows, “And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.”

The word of this event spread among the region, resulting in “And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.”

Christ truly does “all things well”.  The word for “well” carries with three basic ideas: to be morally virtuous, to be valuable and to be beautiful in appearance.  This is how the miracles of Christ were perceived by most of the common people of the day.  They properly recognized His miracles as being desirable and pleasing both to God and man.  However, those in religious and political authority saw Christ as a threat to their positions and perverted His miracles into harmful and morally corrupt acts. (Lk 6:5-11, Mat 12:22-35 etc etc)

The misinterpretation of Christ, His message, and His works, continues on even to this day.  There are those who distort the purpose and actions of Christ as being something that is insignificant, harmful or fictitious.  God’s Word warns Christians of this mockery in the last days.  (Jude 1:18, 2 Pet 3:3 etc) This is emphasized by Christ, Himself, as He gives us a long discourse on how to be prepared for the inevitable persecution and rejection His disciples will face from this fallen world (Matt 10:16-39).

Are you currently facing rejection or persecution because you have taken a stand for Christ?  Are you facing a choice between facing judgment from this world or choosing to compromise your stand for truth?

Let’s make the choice to remain faithful to Him knowing that.. 2 Cor 4:16-18  “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;  While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

May the Lord bless each one of us as we “Think On These Things”.

  1. Considering all HE has done for me, in me and through me for 54 years (and for 22 years before that even though I didn’t recognise it at the time) how can I do other than trust Him? He remains faithful, so I press on in His strength and enabling.

    What an amazing God!

My heart quickened as I thought of Him doing all things well . .and how even that was twisted and seen as corrupt and evil. We have no where else to go , no where to stand but upon His truth and with Him. God bless you, Pastor Rob, and these blessings that you post to help us think of Him more and more and more!
