We now continue our devotional series on the two-fold calling (to salvation and to service) of Isaiah.  Remember in this series we will be looking to learn more about the One who is calling Isaiah, along with the nature of the calls and an examination of the submission to these calls by Isaiah…

Isa 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, …

As Isaiah begins his recounting of this glorious vision, we find Isaiah’s attention being immediately to the Lord and His position as King over all.

Jehovah’s position as ruling authority is shown to us in two differing ways…

  1. His Title – Isaiah gives God the title “The Lord”… the Hebrew word translated “Lord” here is the word “Adonai”.   “Adonai” literally means “the owner who controls”.   It reflects the Lord’s possession of, and authority over, all things.
  2. His Seat – The concept of the Lord’s total control of all is then emphasized by seeing      Him sitting on a throne.  In those days, the throne was symbolic of the authority that the King possessed over His kingdom.  Anyone sitting on a nation’s throne was recognized as the one holding absolute control over that nation.

Our Lord Jesus, following His obedience to the Father was given ruling authority over all things. (Phil 2:5-11, Eph 1:16-23).   This ruling authority held by Christ allows Him to control all aspects of this world in which we live.  He is the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” (1 Tim 6:15-16)  There is nothing beyond His control.  The result of this exaltation by the Father would be that someday, at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  (Phil 2:10-11)

Because of this, we can approach Christ with any request, knowing that He is able to intervene and grant any request that is made of Him.  He can, and will, do what we ask of Him if it is a part of His sovereign will for our lives.  This is why He can promise us that….

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do [it].  (John 14:13-14)

As we enter into our day today, let’s keep in mind the wonderful privilege that He has placed upon us… because His throne is a “throne of grace” we are allowed to enter into His presence without fear.  We can come before the Almighty, Sovereign, God of the Universe who understands our circumstances and can intervene and change any situation we may be facing.  Dear Christian brother or sister do not lose hope…

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”  (Heb 4:15-16)

May the Lord bless us as we “Think On These Things”.

You’ve come to understand one of the greatest truths about prayer…. He answers every prayer in His own way and it will always be for the good of His people and for His honor and glory. Very good comment it added much to the posting. Thank you so much and Lord bless.

  4. We have access to God.
We can come boldly into His presence.
This is mind-blowing! No wonder people who do not know the REALITY of a new life in Christ think we are either blasphemous or deranged when we express this.

It is humanly incredible that we, sinful, created beings, could approach the omnipotent, all holy, perfect, creator GOD . . . but we *KNOW* it is true, because we experience it. We know the closeness of the relationship Christ secured for us, and we know it is ONLY because when He took our sins, He GAVE us His own righteousness. We have access because we are covered with His righteousness.

    What a truly amazing God!

    • Rob Barkman says:

AMEN! Our minds cannot fully understand the miracle of fallen man being able to commune with Almighty Holy God! Lord bless you Angela.
