But We Glory in Tribulations Also

SIH’s Think On These Things: Rom 5:1-5

Rom 5:1-5 (KJV)
1) Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2) By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3) And not only [so], but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4) And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5) And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Our Lord gave us very important instructions that apply to all of His people. We find the text of His message in Luke 14:25-33.  In this section of Scripture he explains the great sacrifice that is needed to be made by those who desire to be followers of Him.  He emphasizes the need for sacrifice by telling us… whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.”

The Word goes further in explaining to us that when we face trials during the course of helping others it is a blessing that glorifies God and will reap rewards on our behalf (Phil 2:16-18, 1 Pet 1:6-9, 1Pet 4:12-16).  However, perhaps one of the greatest immediate benefits we receive through trials is the enhancement of our spiritual maturation (Roms 5:1)…

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Through God’s grace, our exercise of faith brings about our justification, peace with God and hope of sharing eternal glory with God.

And not only [so], but we glory in tribulations also:
The eternal benefits of our salvation should not only be linked to our praise and thankfulness but should also be linked to the trials that we face during the course of our earthly walk for Him

knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Why are we to be thankful for the tribulations we are called upon to face?  It is because these same trials strength and encourage our growth in the faith.  Trials develop the graces of patience, experience and hope.  All three of these are vital graces for victorious Christian living.

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
We will never be disappointed due to unrealized Scripture-based hopes because the Lord, as a loving God, always keeps His promises to us.

May we all thank the Lord for the many, varied trials that we face during the course of our lifetimes.  As difficult as they are for us to go through, their benefits are numerous and profitable for all of God’s people.

May the Lord bless us as we “Think On These Things”.

Thank you, Pastor Rob, for helping us to be thankful in our trials, to see the wisdom in that and all the ways that He is working in our lives! God bless you and yours as you give thanks today!

  2. I can’t say I welcome troubles, but after my gracious Lord has undertaken for me IN them, I am thankful for them because I can see how He used them to ‘grow’ me.

    Fiery trials make golden Christians.
Where there are no trials, there are no triumphs.

      Hi Angela,
What a blessing it is to come to an understanding that EVERYTHING that happens in a believers life is for their good. Thanks for the comments. Lord bless.
