SIH TOTT ICONHe layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous (Prov 2:7)

Wisdom On Display: Wisdom Is Faithful In It’s Responsibilitiess: Proverbs 10:26

26) As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so [is] the sluggard to them that send him.

In this single proverb, we can see that the fool is unreliable…

26) As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so [is] the sluggard to them that send him.
1. Vinegar has a sharp displeasing taste; it does not heal wounds by causes increased pain and irritation to them; it gradually eats away at teeth eventually destroying them.
2.  In many ways, smoke shares these characteristics.  It is displeasing to the eyes; it irritates the eyes; and the soot and debris it carries can cause permanent damage to the eyes.

This proverb points to the unreliability of the fool.  Because the fool is not faithful in the responsibilities he has been given he becomes displeasing, irritating, and harmful to those who place their trust in him.  In some cases, their disloyalty can cause permanent loss.

However, those who are faithful in fulfilling their responsibilities are of unspeakable value to those who trust in him….

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.”   (Proverbs 25:13)

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”   (2 Timothy 4:6-8)

By God’s grace, let us accept our responsibilities gladly, rely upon His grace to fulfill those duties and follow the instructions of our Lord given through Paul who tells us to be “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;”   (Romans 12:11)

May we all choose to speak words of wisdom, knowing that they will result in blessings to both the speaker and the hearers.

By God’s grace, let us all study these proverbs diligently, giving them the value that they deserve.

May the Lord bless us as we receive this sound wisdom and then “Think On These Things”.

  1. Debbie says:

Thank you, Pastor Rob, for helping us heed this proverb, to be those who are faithful in fulfilling our responsibilities. God bless you!

  2. SLIMJIM says:

I am reminded by this that we ought not be slothful in the Lord’s business

  3. What a PRIVILEGE is ours to be made a blood-bought, adopted child of the living God, and to know the reality of His abiding presence in us.

A privilege indeed – and also a RESPONSIBILITY.

Since God has provided EVERYTHING we need to live victorious, Christ-honouring lives, we have no excuse if we do not fulfill our responsibilities. Thank you for this reminder.
