SIH TOTT ICONHe layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous (Prov 2:7)

Increasing Life’s Joy: Seeking To Honor Our Creator: Proverbs 22:1-4

1) A [good] name [is] rather to be chosen than great riches, [and] loving favour rather than silver and gold.
2) The rich and poor meet together: the LORD [is] the maker of them all.
3) A prudent [man] foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
4) By humility [and] the fear of the LORD [are] riches, and honour, and life.

In this chapter, Solomon explains several factors that cultivate the experience of joy during our earthly life.

One of the greatest factors that increases our joy is the pursuit of honor for our Creator…

EXPOSITION:

1) A [good] name [is] rather to be chosen than great riches, [and] loving favour rather than silver and gold.  2) The rich and poor meet together: the LORD [is] the maker of them all.
1. A reputation that is pleasing and honoring to God, and desired by man, should be selected in the place of the overflowing, temporal, wealth  offered by the world.
2.  To show others mercy and kindness that beautifies our Lord should be selected over silver and gold that only exist temporarily.
3.  Both those who are wealthy, and those who have little, find common ground…
4.  They are both created by God, and as such, are under His authority.

Note the two basic principles….
Our lasting testimony is far more important than that of temporary, overflowing wealth and the things of supreme earthly worth that this world offers.

When we understand this very important truth, we also come to an understanding that:
a.   those who are poor in this world can be very wealthy in the eyes of the Lord; likewise,
b.   those who are wealthy with the riches of this world, can be impoverished in the world to come.

How these truths change the way we look at this world, its benefits, and the people who are living in this world!

No matter how wealthy or how poor, we all will stand before our Creator and give an account for what we have done with our lives.

Regardless of the level of earthly wealth we may possess, we can be joyous knowing that we are striving to cultivate a testimony with which our Creator is pleased.  In doing so, we are accumulating eternal wealth that can never be taken from us.

3) A prudent [man] foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
1.  A man who is discerning and wise will be able to recognize that which causes harm and, wisely, conceal himself from it.
2.  Those who do not understand the true nature of the evil, will continue on the path that intersects with the evil and harm.

A part of a Godly testimony involves recognizing that which is evil, discerning its future affects and then avoiding it.  For those who are naive and inexperienced in the ways of darkness,  they will be easily enticed and entrapped by them.

4) By humility [and] the fear of the LORD [are] riches, and honour, and life.
1. The two lynch pins of an honorable testimony are: a spirit of submission to the Lord and merciful kindness towards others; along with the proper respect for God and fear of His chastening hand.
2. Eternal spiritual wealth, glory, and communion with our Creator are the results.

When we humble ourselves before Christ in saving faith we are afforded and eternity with Him, when we then seek to honor Him with our lives, many rewards will await us.  Knowing these truths will bring great joy to our hearts and lives no matter what situations we may be facing in this life.

SUMMARY:

For the Christian, living a joyous life on earth is the direct result of placing Christ and His honor first in our lives.  When we choose to live our lives for Him, instead of living our lives for the wealth of this world, we can joyously expect living among His blessings while we are on the earth and in the life to come.

By God’s grace, let us all study these proverbs diligently, giving them the value that they deserve.  May the Lord bless us as we receive this sound wisdom and then “Think On These Things”.

Please help me by referring me to verses that will calm Al and bring him less fear as he leaves this world and goes to heaven. I read what God leads me to read, but I would like more

    • Rob Barkman says:

      13) But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
      14) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
      15) For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
      16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
      17) Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
      18) Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
      (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

      51) Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
      52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
      53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality.
      54) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
      55) O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory?
      56) The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law.
      57) But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
      (1 Corinthians 15:51-57)

      1) And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
      2) And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
      3) And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God.
      4) And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
      5) And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
      6) And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
      7) He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
      8) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
      9) And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
      10) And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
      11) Having the glory of God: and her light [was] like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
      12) And had a wall great and high, [and] had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are [the names] of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
      13) On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
      14) And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
      15) And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
      16) And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
      17) And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred [and] forty [and] four cubits, [according to] the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
      18) And the building of the wall of it was [of] jasper: and the city [was] pure gold, like unto clear glass.
      19) And the foundations of the wall of the city [were] garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation [was] jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
      20) The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
      21) And the twelve gates [were] twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city [was] pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
      22) And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
      23) And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [is] the light thereof.
      24) And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
      25) And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
      26) And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
      27) And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither [whatsoever] worketh abomination, or [maketh] a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
      1) And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
      2) In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, [was there] the tree of life, which bare twelve [manner of] fruits, [and] yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree [were] for the healing of the nations.
      3) And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
      4) And they shall see his face; and his name [shall be] in their foreheads.
      5) And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
      6) And he said unto me, These sayings [are] faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
      7) Behold, I come quickly: blessed [is] he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
      8) And I John saw these things, and heard [them]. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
      9) Then saith he unto me, See [thou do it] not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
      10) And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
      11) He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
      12) And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward [is] with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
      13) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
      14) Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
      15) For without [are] dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
      16) I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, [and] the bright and morning star.
      17) And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
      18) For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
      19) And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.
      20) He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
      21) The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all. Amen.
      (Revelation 21:1-22:21)

      1) Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
      2) In my Father’s house are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
      3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.
      4) And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
      5) Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
      6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
      7) If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
      8) Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
      9) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father?
      10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
      11) Believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
      12) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
      (John 14:1-12)

      1) After this I looked, and, behold, a door [was] opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard [was] as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
      2) And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and [one] sat on the throne.
      3) And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and [there was] a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
      4) And round about the throne [were] four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
      5) And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and [there were] seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
      6) And before the throne [there was] a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, [were] four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
      7) And the first beast [was] like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast [was] like a flying eagle.
      8) And the four beasts had each of them six wings about [him]; and [they were] full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
      9) And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
      10) The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
      11) Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
      (Revelation 4:1-11)

I hope these helps. Lord bless you my friend.

  2. Amen, eternal wealth is where it is all at. I am content with my daily bread and storing up treasures in heaven, where moth and rust can not destroy. Great post! 🙂

  3. The old communist philosophy that Christianity is merely ‘pie in the sky when you die’ is totally wrong. Christianity brings the richest of blessings here and now!

I *KNOW* my eternal destiny and look forward to an eternity with Christ, but even if heaven was a myth (which I know it isn’t) I still have the very BEST that life can offer here in this life. I cannot be the loser!
