(6) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
The focal point of the entire Word of God is the Slain Lamb of God. The sacrifice of Christ on the cross, on behalf of His people is the theme of both the Old and New Testaments…
- The Old Testament looks ahead through the ceremonial laws and the prophecies given to men that revealed the coming Messiah, the Slain Lamb, Jesus Christ, and His glorious sacrifice on the cross.
- Likewise, the New Testament gospels rehearse the details of the Lamb’s life on earth culminating with His being slain and His resurrection which has secured our salvation. These books are followed by Acts through Revelation which point us back to the work of the Slain Lamb explaining it in more detail and reaffirming that it has taken place.
Why is the Slain lamb the focal point of the entire Word of God?
Colossians 1:1-22 KJV
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
In this short section of Scripture we find several principles that clearly show us the importance of Christ’s death for our lives. In His death we find our:
- redemption – we our ransom has been paid, we are loosed from our enslavement to sin and death.
- forgiveness of sins – our sins have been pardoned, we are released from the debt of sin that we owe.
- peace – we are in harmonious communion with God, no longer separated from and at war with Him.
- reconciliation – we are enabled to enter His presence, fellowship with Him and enjoy Him eternally.
- presentation to God as holy – we are seen as His family/servants, no longer living for sin and self.
- presentation to God as unblameable – we are looked upon by God as unblemished, without fault.
- presentation to God as unreproveable – we are without blame, and cannot be accused in God’s sight.
Why is the central theme of the Bible the Slain Lamb? If the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ was not slain, our sins have never been “put away”, we are yet in our sins and destined to an eternity of separation from God in eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire….
Hebrews 9:26 KJV
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
May we constantly praise and honor the Slain Lamb who died for us that, through His shed blood, our sins would be “put away” for an eternity! No matter what we are facing as we begin our day, if we know, by faith, that Christ has died for our sins, we have nothing to fear. Our sins have been put away, we are forgiven, we are at peace with God, and we have an eternity in God’s presence awaiting us!

Something To Pray About…
Do we take as much time to pray for our leaders as we do to criticize them?
What would our Lord have us to do?
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;” (1 Timothy 2:1-3)
I believe the more we pray for our governmental, church and family leaders, the less we will criticize them.
May the Lord bless each one of us with His grace as we seek to do His will.

Revelation 5: Summary
SUMMARY OF THE CHAPTER:
In our previous studies we have seen that Revelation chapter 4:, which begins a vision of worship taking place in heaven, chapter 5 forms the completion of this vision:
- The Scroll And The Lamb (5:1-7)
- Worship Of The Lamb (5:8-14)
- Worship of The Saints (vs 8-10)
- Worship of Saints and Angels (vs 11-12)
- Worship of All Creation (vs 13-14)
SUMMARY OF EACH DIVISION OF CHAPTER:
- Revelation 5:1-7 – The Scroll and the Lamb
Following the worship of God by the 4 beasts and 24 elders, we now have our concentration placed upon the sealed book that is in the hand of God. This book is a scroll that represents the eternal inheritance that is awaiting the saints of God, while the 7 seals represent the events that must take place before the saints can receive their inheritance.
A search begins for one who is worthy to receive this scroll, break the seals and reveal its contents. No angel, nor man, is found worthy and the situation seems hopeless. But then, a Lamb (the Lord Jesus Christ) comes onto the scene and and rightfully, receives the scroll. John is shown that the Lamb is the only One that is worthy to break the seals (control the events leading up to eternity) and open the scroll (graciously bestow the eternal blessings to the saints.)

Following the receipt of the sealed book (scroll) by the Lamb, the four beasts and 24 elders (the redeemed of God) fall to their knees in worship and submission to the Lamb. He is the One that has secured their eternal blessings.
In response to their appreciation for His work on their behalf, the redeemed begin a song of honor and praise for their Savior. In that song, they directly link the work of Christ with His worthiness to receive the scroll. Basically, they are singing that, because Christ was faithful to the Father and willing to give His life for those He loves, He alone deserves to rule the events of the world leading up to eternity and to bestow upon His people the eternal blessings He has acquired for them.
As their song continues the heavenly angels and finally the entire creation of God joins with them in this song of appreciation, honor and praise for the Lamb who has done so much for them.

Revelation 5:8-14 “The Worship Of The Lamb”

The Worship Of The Lamb…
Revelation 5:8-14 KJV
(8) And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
(9) And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
(10) And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
(11) And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
(12) Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
(13) And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
(14) And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
THE INTRODUCTION:
Chapter 5 continues the vision began in chapter 4. In chapter four, we saw the worship of the spirits of the saints that surround the throne of God in heaven. Then in the beginning of chapter 5 we saw the Lamb being given the scroll.
Now, in the later part of chapter 5, we will see three different groups worshipping the Lamb for the great work He has done on their behalf (the redeemed in heaven vs 8-10; the angels vs 11-12; all creation vs 13-14)..

THE EXPOSITORY STUDY:
Revelation 5: –
(8) And when he had taken the book,
This part of John’s vision (begun in Rev 4:1) takes place immediately following the Lamb’s receipt of the sealed scroll (which symbolizes Christ possessing the ability and authority to control the events of this world and grant His eternal inheritance to the saints of God).
the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb,
As the Lamb receives the scroll, the elders and beasts fall to their faces before the Lamb, which shows us their humble spirit of appreciation and their desire to honor and worship the Lamb. They are doing this to praise Christ for His faithfulness to the Father, culminating in His death and resurrection, which allows Him to receive the authority and ability to control all the events of this world that lead up to the saint’s receipt of their eternal inheritance.
The beasts and elders will be seen acting in synchronization throughout this passage. Please keep in mind that both of these groups symbolize the saints of God. This is one reason of several why they are shown acting in unison.
having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
The elders and beasts possess both harps and golden bowls of incense. We are told that the bowls of incense represent the pleasing nature and ascension of their prayers to Christ. Perhaps, the harps also represented the pleasing nature of their prayers as they entered the ears of the listeners (God, Christ, and the angels). Or, perhaps, the harps simply emphasize the worshipful nature of their prayers.
In either case, both the harps and the bowls of incense reflect truths related to their prayers.
(9) And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof:
They jointly sing a “new” song of praise to the Lamb. Why is it called a “new” song? There are two reasons why their song of praise is described as new:
- this song is about being made new by the blood of Christ. We become new creatures with new desires, new lifestyles, new reasons for living, new family relationships, new national citizenship and a new inheritance. The list goes on and on.
- this song is a different type of song than was sung by the saints in the OT times. Then, because Christ had not yet come to the earth, they did not understand all the details of the Messiah’s work on their behalf. Now, following Christ’s work, the saints more clearly understand what He has done for them and can sing with much more specificity.
- this song is about a new order being initiated through the death of Christ. Prior to Christ’s coming the OT ceremonial laws were actively used to display the coming work of the Messiah and the Old Testament was the only source of divine revelation. Now, following Christ’s death, the ceremonial laws were done away, the rite of circumcision has been made obsolete, the worship place of God has been changed, and a new revelation from God has begun (New Testament). These and many other differences have brought about a new way of worship and service of our Lord.
All of these make this song a wonderfully “new” song bringing honor to Christ.
for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
In this song, the saints reveal the basis of Christ’s worthiness to receive of the scroll… His death, and the resultant work of redemption of His people. His people are called from every family, language, social group and national citizenship.
The word “us” (in vs 9-10) is referring back to the singers (beast and elders) of this song. Folks, this plainly tells us that the elders and beasts must be symbolic of the saints (those who are saved by God’s grace). They are the ones for whom Christ died and they are the ones who are redeemed by His blood.
Please note: There are certain translations of the Bible that change the word “us” to “them” or a generic term like “men”. By doing this, they are implying that those who are singing do not, necessarily, represent those who are saved. I disagree with those translations.
The word “us” is a translation of the Greek word “hemas” which is always translated in the KJV Bible in the first person (“us”, “we” or “our”). Also, there are many translations including the KJV, SLT, EMTV, ACV etc. that translate this passage with “us”. This helps us to understand this is the proper translation of this passage.
Also, contextually, there is nothing that prohibits this translation, but there is much material from Revelation that supports it. Other proofs of the identity of the elders and beasts as the saints of God will be presented later in our studies which will also support the translation “us” in this passage.
(10) And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
The elders and beasts continue to praise the Lord for making them “kings and priests”. They are made “kings” in the sense they are given authority to be overcomers on this earth and to have perfect dominion on the New Earth (which is a part of their eternal inheritance).
They are said to be made “priests” because they are given direct access to the very presence God. They do not need to speak to God through another man but they can pray directly to Him. In eternity, they will be allowed to be physically present with God on the New Heavens and New Earth (another part of their inheritance).
(11) And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
Following the worship of the saints, we now have more than 100 million heavenly angels joining into the song of praise.
(12) Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
As the angels join in the singing the subject of the song no longer speaks of Christ’s death on their behalf and the resultant blessings, but now places their attention solely on the worthiness of Christ.
This is a very important transition, since the angels are not redeemed through the shed blood of Christ, they can only sing that He deserves great honor and blessings for His death on behalf of the saints of God. This is another indicator that the beasts and elders represent those who are saints of God (those who are redeemed through His blood) in comparison to angels that are not redeemed.
The elders, beasts and angels proclaim that Christ deserves the receipt of:
- power – strength to accomplish any task
- riches – possess of all valuable items
- wisdom – insight into the true nature of things
- strength – knowledge and capability to do anything
- honor – to be perceived as possessing great value
- glory – to be outwardly praised for being greatly valuable
- blessing – to be spoken well by others
If you notice these speak of two basic principles (power, riches, wisdom, and strength) speak of Christ’s POSSESSION OF perfect attributes, authority and ability etc.
While (honor, glory, and blessing) speak of Christ’s DESERVING TO BE GIVEN the appropriate worship, reverence, respect and fear of men, angels and all other members of creation.
(13) And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying,
As this song progresses, the remaining portion of creation (“every creature”) now joins this song of praise.
The remaining parts of creation are described as:
- in heaven – astronauts, pilots, sun, moon, stars, birds, flying insects etc
- on earth – all living men, crawling insects, animals, lizards, mountains, streams, rivers, plant-life, fallen angels, Satan etc
- under the earth – miners, wells of water, burrowing animals and insects, bodies of the dead, inhabitants of hell, fallen angels. molten lava, etc
- in sea – fish, lobsters, sailors, whales etc
- all that are in creation – anything and everything that is created by God.
All of God’s creation now sings along with the saints and heavenly angels…
Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
All of God’s creation now sings praise to God and the Lamb for who they are and what they have done. They give to both God and the Lamb:
- blessing – they speak well of Them both
- honour – they perceive both of Them to be of great worth
- glory – they outwardly praise Them for
- power – they acknowledge They possess the dominion over all creation
(14) And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
To close the song the saints of God (beasts) acknowledge the truthfulness of the song “AMEN” and then the saints (those who are eternally blessed of God) bow down and worship God.
Here we find, a difference in the reaction of the beasts and the elders. Why is there a difference?
Remember, the beasts are representative of those who possess eternal life through Christ and His work. Why would they say “AMEN” (a word that represents recognition, agreement and acceptance)? Perhaps it is to teach us that only those who possess eternal life can come to an understanding and agreement with the worship of God and the Lamb. Those who are spiritually dead CANNOT come to an understanding of the truths of God and will actively, or passively, oppose the worship of God and the Lamb on the earth.
The elders, who are representative of saints as the recipients of God’s eternal blessings, respond by bowing down and worshipping. Why might this be? They are acknowledging that all of their blessings (including their right to reign as Kings and Priests) only comes through the gracious work of God and Christ. They are nothing of themselves. Therefore they respond in humble submission to the God and the Lamb after hearing this song that presents Their greatness so clearly. This reminds of the elders casting their crowns at the feet of God in humble acknowledgement that God deserves all the rewards they had received for faithful service (Rev 4:10).
CHRIST REVEALED:
In this text we have seen Christ presented as the Deserving Lamb of God. He is deserving of all the divine blessings of authority and power given to Him. He is deserving of mankind’s absolute submission and worship with their entire being.
Why is He deserving of such great and wonderful blessings? In the shedding of His blood we can see that He successfully accomplished the task at hand, He was faithful in fulfilling the desires of the Father, and He was willing to give His life for those He loved. All of these prove beyond doubt He is deserving of our total commitment as well as God’s exaltation to His right hand.
What a wonderful, faithful Lord that we serve!
THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION (SUMMARY)
We have seen the honor, praise and worship of our Lord set before us in the song that has been sung. Folks just as the heavenly saints, elect angels, and all creation honoring Christ, so too, should each one of us left here on earth.
We should have on our minds, daily, what He has so graciously done for us. In response we should be appreciative and willing to give our all to Him. Then, this desire to give our all should translate into living lives that are living sacrifices of service to Christ. One of the greatest encouragements to serve Him daily is a proper appreciation of His great work on our behalf. Likewise, one of the greatest hindrances to our faithful service is a forgetful spirit and lack of appreciation not recognizing all the blessings He has, is, and will bestow upon us.
May we all seek to come to a better recognition and appreciation of all our Lord has done for us as we seek to live our lives for His glory and honor.
May the Lord bless us as we seek to see Jesus in the pages of the book of Revelation.

The Revelation Of Jesus Christ: “hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof”
Revelation 5:5 KJV
(5) And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
After both angels and men were found unworthy to open the book that contained the eternal blessings of God for His people, the slain Lamb of God comes forward and is found worthy to open the book.
Notice, that the reason why Christ is defined as worthy is clearly revealed… “(Jesus) hath prevailed…”. It was because of Christ prevailing over sin, death, and Satan Himself. He was the one that subdued all of His enemies bringing them into submission and down to defeat…

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
What a blessing it is to know that Christ has gained the victory over His spiritual enemies and, in doing so, has cleared the way for our eternal salvation! We are saved and resting in Him and His promises because He has overcome all of those who would seek to undue our salvation and bring us into ruin.
It is through this same victory that He secured our salvation and now gives us the victory over the enemies of this world that seek to oppose us as we serve Him…
John 16:32-33 KJV
Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Folks, as we enter into our day of spiritual warfare for Christ, let’s remember we ALREADY have been given the victory through Christ. So let’s serve Him with confidence joy knowing that, because of Him, we have overcome the world!

The Revelation Of Jesus Christ: “the Lion of the tribe of Juda”
Revelation 5:5 KJV
(5) And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Jesus Christ, the Lion of the Tribe Of Judah… what an amazing name for our Lord! What can we learn about Him from this glorious name?
First of all, our Lord is described as a Lion pointing us to two great truths:
1. Our Lord is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, possessing ultimate authority over all.
In the Old Testament Scriptures, the lion was associated with the authority and power possessed by Kings. Solomon’s throne was “guarded” by two statues of great lions (1 Kings 10:19). To this day, the lion is known as the “king of the jungle” which finds its origination in the Kings of old.
2. Our Lord is the Almighty God, possessing the physical power to defeat all His enemies.
Also, the lion was known for the ability to overcome any enemy and overpower any prey. It’s physical strength and prowess was well known throughout the world in the days of the Old Testament (Isaiah 31:4).
Secondly, the Lord is pictured as being a descendent of the house of Judah revealing two other great truths for us:
1. Our Lord was born into this earth as a man.
This title points to Christ as being a descendent of the human tribe of Judah, pointing to Him as possessing a human nature. He was conceived in, and came forth from, Mary’s womb.
2. Our Lord was a member of the physical Jewish nation.
He was a physical Jew and, therefore, possessed the physical characteristics that are displayed in the Jewish race. Being a physical Jew, He was born under the Godly rules and regulations that were given to the Jewish nation, He was a worshipper and servant of Jehovah, and He was the only One that perfectly pleased God with His life. (One side note: although Christ was legally a member of the Jewish nation, remember that He possessed Gentile blood in His physical lineage as well… 4 different women who appear in His lineage were Gentiles (Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba – Matthew 1:1-6).
Folks, in this one great title for Christ, we see Him presented as both God and Man, King and servant, the One possessing all authority and the One under authority, the One with all strength and ability and the One that possessed the frailness of human fleshly bodies.
May we all recognize and forever appreciate the wonder of the incarnation of God. He was God Himself, made in the likeness of sinful flesh, so that He might experience temptation, suffering and death for His beloved people….

What Would Our Life Be Like Without The Promise Of Eternity With God?

For us to understand the great emotions that John felt, we need to remember the book’s (scroll’s) symbolism. The book is a listing of the eternal inheritance awaiting the saints of God. Opening the book is a picture of this great inheritance being revealed to the saints of God in eternity. As long as the book remained closed, the saints of God are unable to receive this wonderful inheritance that is awaiting them.
This is the basis of John’s great sorrow…at this point in the vision, no one has been deemed worthy to open the book and it appears as if the saints will never receive their eternal inheritance.
Listen to how John describes the outward display of sorrow and sense of loss that he felt… “I wept much”. In other words, “I uncontrollably wailed aloud” which was much like mourners at a funeral who are overwhelmed with grief at the loss of a precious, loved one.
Folks, can we imagine what was going through John’s mind at this point in time? No longer did he have the hope of: a reunion with departed loved ones; a glorified body providing a rest from sickness, pain and weakness; an existence separated from the influence and effects of a sinful fallen world; and most importantly, no longer a confidence that He will spend eternity in the very presence of His Lord and God.
No wonder He wailed so pitifully.
How often do we thank the Lord for His promises of the eternal blessings awaiting us?
Do we ever give thought to the blessing of a Godly faith that allows us to be confident of these blessed promises we are given?
Keep in mind, all of these promises comfort the heart of only those who have been blessed with a Godly faith. A Godly faith is what supplies the substance and evidence of these promises that are yet unseen…
Hebrews 11:1 KJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
As we enter our day, and face its many challenges and trials, lets always keep in mind these great promises that bring comfort to our soul and the wondrous faith we have been given that makes them so real to us!

Christ… The Worthy One!
Revelation 5:2 KJV

(2) And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
“Who is worthy?” What a very important question to ask! Basically, the angel is asking, “Who is the appropriate One to take control of the events of this world (the seven seals) and the events in this world to come (opening the scroll)? Who is deserving of this great honor?” “Who is the One that is fitting and proper to have the Ultimate control over all of the events that will affect our lives, both now and in the life to come?”
WOW! Gaining the answer to this question will show us the identity of our Master and the purpose of our existence on earth. In the next few devotions, we will be finding the answer to this question that is placed before us.
But for this morning, I would like us to simply stop and consider the great importance of this issue. Who deserves to rule over us? Who is the proper One to possess authority over every aspect of our lives (including every breath we take)? Who is the One who can be relied upon to control our eternal inheritance that awaits those saved by His grace?
Can we see why this issue is so very important?…
If this authority is placed into the hands of a dictator abuse, tyranny and hopelessness will prevail throughout this world and in our own personal lives.
If this power is given to One that is lax and disinterested in us, we will have a Master that is disengaged and careless, allowing our lives, and the entire world. to degenerate and spin out of control without giving either a second thought.
If this privilege is given to the impotent, then no matter how good their intentions might be, they will be unable to intervene and bring about their will for our lives.’
If this honor is given to One that is naïve and limited in their knowledge of future events, it will be possible for Him to be fooled by Satan, make faulty decisions and be limited in their decision making not knowing what lies ahead.
If this rulership is given to One that is limited by space and time, we will have a Ruler whose attention and efforts will be limited. He will be stretched to the breaking point and unable to handle the almost infinite number of situations, needs, and abuses that are taking place throughout the world.
Do we see the importance of the issue that is set before us? Do we see how, if placed in the wrong hands, the authority over the seven-sealed scroll can mean our doom?
But do not fear, child of God, the One that is fitting and proper WILL RECEIVE this great privilege of control over all!!! Our God will remain faithful to us in granting this control to One who loves us, is constantly interested in our well-being, and is All-powerful, All-knowing, and ever present with us no matter where we may be.
Let us thank our God for placing our lives and the entire world in the hands of the WORTHY ONE!

Our Lord Is In Control Of Our “Now” and Our “Future” In Him!
Revelation 5:1 KJV

(1) And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
During John’s vision of the throne of God in heaven, he sees “a seven sealed book” in the hand of Almighty God, the One that was sitting upon the throne.
This book plays a very important role in the remaining visions that John will receive and record for us in Revelation. Basically, this “book” is a scroll that is sealed on the outside with seven seals. One by one, as each seal is broken, John will be shown an event that must take place before the saints of God will receive their eternal inheritance. Following the breaking of the final seal, John will see the scroll opened which will reveal to John the inheritance that is awaiting the saints of God as they enter eternity with their Lord.
Folks, one of the great purposes of Revelation is to help us to see Christ being revealed in the events of the world around us leading up to His second coming and then the greatness of Christ being revealed to us throughout eternity. This is the purpose of the seven sealed scroll.
For our devotional thought for this morning, keep in mind the scroll is seen in the hands of God. Folks, do we understand that our Lord is in control? …
He is in control of the events of this world that take place prior to His second coming.
He is in control of His second coming and the glorious eternal inheritance His saints will receive from Him.
He is in control of our “now”. He is in control of our “future”.
He is in control of events in this sinful, fallen world. He is in control of the events of the sinless New Heavens and Earth which is yet to come.
He is in control!
In the generation of Ebola, Isis, beheadings, tornadoes, floods, Russian invasions, missing jetliners, etc etc we can know for certain, that He is in control of them all. He knows about them and is using them for His purposes. In some cases, He is actively bringing them into existence, in other cases, He is allowing them to exist. In either case, He is in control. Based upon this knowledge, we can better understand what we are clearly told in the Scriptures…
Isaiah 41:10 KJV “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Folks, no matter what we may see take place around us, because He is in control, we can rest assured He will be with us, strengthen us, and uphold us!
