Rev 8:10 KJV – And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
In Revelation, God’s wrath that falls against sinful mankind is presented as seven trumpets that are sounded. In the sounding of the first four trumpets, we find the description of the four core targets of the Lord’s great wrath:
- Trumpet 1 – Lost Mankind
- Trumpet 2 – The False Religions Of The World
- Trumpet 3 – Satan and The Demonic Powers Of The World
- Trumpet 4 – The Political Kingdoms of the World.
Throughout this week, we will be centering our study on Trumpet number 3… the role of Satan and the demonic forces of this world.
Satan and, by implication, the other fallen angels are pictured as the great star that is seen falling from heaven. This is a very fitting symbolic representation of Satan in two ways:
- He is described as a “great star”
A star can appear like the sun but is a far lesser light than the sun.
We are told that Satan attempts to mimic the Lord the true light of the world and appears as “an angel of light” (2 Cor 11:14) and the fallen angels are described as fallen stars (Dan 8:9-12; Rev 12:3-4,9). Even the human followers of Satan are described as “wandering stars” (Jude 1:13)
- He “fell … from heaven”
In several OT accounts, we read of Satan and his angels falling from heaven (Isa 14:12, Luke 10:18).
This took place due to Satanic rebellion against the Lord, refusing to submit to his proper place of servitude but choosing to attempt to usurp the exalted position deserved by Christ alone. (Ezek 28:13-17)
Folks, what an important truth lies before us. The same Satan that chose to oppose Christ and seek to usurp His glory, is the same Satan that was cast out of heaven, and is the same Satan that will face the wrath of God at His second coming. We should never believe that Satan has won, or will win, the ultimate victory over Christ and His people…
- His victory was prophesied (Gen 3:15);
- His victory was achieved at the cross (Col 2:13-15);
- His victory will be clearly displayed at His second coming (1 Cor 15:24-28)
Folks what a wonderful truth to hold onto in today’s troublesome times…. Satan has already been defeated and faces the upcoming wrath of God and eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire. There is no doubt about this truth!
Heb 2:14-15 KJV – Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
May we all think on these things today and find encouragement and comfort for our hearts!
