And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

In this vision, we see Christ Himself symbolized by “a mighty angel” that was “clothed in a cloud”.

What can we learn about Christ from this symbolism?

  1. He is described as a “mighty angel”…

Christ is described as “an angel” because He was sent to do the bidding of His Father, just like the angels of the Lord deliver His messages and does His bidding while on earth.

This is not the only time that Christ is described as an angel… Keep in mind, “the Angel of Jehovah” found in the OT is also speaking of Christ before He became flesh (Gen 16:7-14, 22:11-18, 31:11-13 etc).    Also Christ is described as the “Angel (Messenger) of the Covenant” in Malachi 3:1.

  1. He is described as being “clothed with a cloud”…

This helps us to see three different truths about Christ:

First, it helps us to understand that Christ is God Himself – God’s glory is described as a cloud while He was meeting with Moses on Mt Sinai (Exodus 16:10).

Second it helps us to understand that Christ is the One that ascended to be with His Father (Acts 1:9)

Third, it helps us to understand that Christ is the One that will come again to be with us eternally (Matt 26:64, Rev 1:7)

WOW!   Folks, stop and think about it.

The Mighty Messenger of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, came to the earth the first time as a suffering servant and Savior of His people fulfilling the will of His Father.

Now, He promises to come again, as our Victorious Lord, to bring an absoulte end to sin and the powers of darkness to ever live in the presence of His people.

May we all praise and honor Him for all that He has done, and will do, for us as the chosen people of God!

May we all think on these things today, appreciate them and find encouragement to be greater servants for our Lord!
