John sees in his vision Christ, symbolized by the mighty angel, setting his feet upon the sea and the earth. This was a public demonstration of Christ’s ownership and control over all creation.
Although, at times, it may not appear as if the Lord is in control of all things, we can know that He is through clear declarations from His Word. Some examples of His sovereignty over all include:
1Ch 29:11-12 KJV – “Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.”
Psa 115:3 KJV – “But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.”
Pro 16:9 KJV – “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”
Psa 103:19 KJV – “The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth
And many, many others.
As Sovereign over all, He deserves our unreserved worship and submission…
Psa 95:3-6 KJV – “For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.”
Every time we come before the Lord with a request, we are acknowledging He is in control of the situation we are currently facing. We are saying, Lord, I believe you are in control of this situation and can bring about change. I believe you possess authority and dominating strength over this issue I am now facing…
Jer 32:27 KJV – “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?”
May we all think on these things today, appreciate our Lord’s sovereignty and find encouragement to possess a greater faith and to be greater servants for our Lord!
