SIH TOTT ICON(“Our future holds events that we have never experienced”)

INTRODUCTION TO OUR SERIES:

Folks, as the New Year comes upon us, we are reminded that we are embarking on a new part of our life’s journey that is filled with many unknowns. These unknown events can challenge a Christian’s faith to its very core. This is the reason that I felt it was important to take a few devotional lessons and address keys to “Entering The Unknown By Faith”.

In this six part devotional series, we will be looking at Isaiah 42:16. This is a wonderful text to use in this devotional series. In this series, we will learn about how to handle unforeseen, challenging life events based upon our trust in the Lord and His enabling graces.

Lord willing, by His grace alone, we will be uncovering the wisdom found in God’s Word that will help us to handle all the “unknowns” that this New Year will hold for us.

Our devotionals will be looking at:

1. Dec 26th – Our Uncertain Future…. Faith Is The Key!
2. Dec 27th – Our Blindness To The Events Our Future Holds
3. Dec 28th – Our Future Holds Events We Have Never Experienced
4. Dec 29th – Our Future Is Revealed To Us One Event At A Time… In The Lord’s Time
5. Dec 30th – Our Future Events May Be Hard To Maneuver But The Lord Straightens Them Out
6. Dec 31st – Our Lord Will Care For Us Every Passing Day

May the Lord bless our study!

TODAY’S TEXTS:

Isa 42:16 KJV

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:

“Our future holds events that we have never experienced”

Isa 42:16b KJV – “I will lead them in paths that they have not known:”

In this section of Scripture, we can see a very basic truth that we all have experienced in our lives on earth…

Our future holds events of which we not have prior experience.

As we progress through our lives, we all will face situations of which we have no previous life experience. In many cases, these are the most fearful of all situations we must face.

It is one thing to face a situation of which we are experienced and have a basic idea of how to successfully proceed; but, it is entirely different to face a dilemma which comes upon us unexpectedly and we have no past life experience to guide us.

When we go through these times of inexperience, uncertainty, and anxiety, we are reminded of our inability and great need of our Lord. But beyond working humility in our lives, it also reminds us that experience is a wonderful, and in many cases, unappreciated gift from God. Experience provides us with much wisdom and understanding of how to fulfill God’s will for us as we pass through life’s difficulties. Experience supplies boldness and confidence in the face of difficult life issues.

Job 12:12 KJV – “With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.”

With age comes experience and with experience comes wisdom and understanding. This is why Solomon points to gray head as one that has great value and honor…

Pro 16:31 KJV – “The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.”

Pro 20:29 KJV – “The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.”

There are many of us that look at old age as a burden to be borne and a hindrance to Christian service, but from the standpoint of experience and wisdom, old age is actually a great blessing that can enhance our service to God.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION:

When we are faced with unfamiliar life problems, we should always remember this is a wonderful opportunity for the Lord to teach us much needed wisdom in this area. Then, with that wisdom we will be able to deal with similar circumstances in the future, as well as help others who are faced with the same type of life situations.

Gaining experience in dealing with life’s problems should be looked upon as a great blessing with a heart of gratitude for the Lord leading us into this new life issue, thereby gaining valuable tools to help us and others as we live our lives for Him.

Pro 4:5-7 KJV – “Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

Learning and growing is not just a worldly human experience, it is a spiritual one as well. As we grow, the Lord may very well take us to new areas in our walk with Him so that we may have the opportunity to mature even more so in His word.

We should be thankful that the Lord loves us enough to help us in this way. Good post Rob!

Thank you for this study. I’m actually going to be using this verse for my study with my church tommorow concerning guidance and God’s sovereignty
